Clarendon County School District (CCSD) is dedicated to ensuring that all students are engaged in learning environments that support their academic, and social-emotional well-being, through the consistent application of high quality standards-based instruction, intentionally planned interventions, and engaging enrichment opportunities in all classrooms. In CCSD, all personnel, in their respective roles, are committed to working in a strategic, and systematic manner, to ensure that our high schools produce graduates that are college- and career- ready, and exemplify the world-class skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate.
Clarendon County School District (CCSD) is comprised of a total of nine schools, and serves approximately 4300 students, across three geographical areas: Manning, S.C. (Manning Early Childhood Center, Manning Elementary School, Manning Junior High School, Manning High School, and F.E. DuBose Career Center); Summerton, S.C. (Dr. Rose H. Wilder Elementary School, and Scott’s Branch Middle/High School); and Turbeville, S.C. (Walker Gamble Elementary School and East Clarendon Middle/High School).
The mission of CCSD is, “to educate and empower students to become productive and responsible citizens.” The vision of CCSD is, “to be a catalyst for our students’ academic success and prosperity for our community by developing well-rounded, confident, and responsible citizens.”
In Clarendon County School District (CCSD), we provide our students with high quality Tier I instruction, via the Workshop Model instructional framework. This instructional framework facilitates student learning in a constructive manner, by providing students with adequate time to think, collaborate, reflect, problem-solve, and to engage in necessary “productive struggle.” This type of learning environment fosters a true approach student-centered learning, and empowers students to take ownership of their learning experiences and outcomes, to yield greater levels of student engagement and academic performance.
We have an established Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) structure, in Clarendon County School District (CCSD), to ensure that all students are able to excel academically, and behaviorally. In addition to our MTSS structure, teachers are committed to staying a minimum of one hour after school, one day a week. We are also afforded the opportunity to support our students’ academic needs through our afterschool and/or summer-school partnerships with Save the Children, 21st Century, Engaging Creative Minds, and The Original Six Foundation. Finally, we have partnered with the South Carolina Department of Education (SCDE) to launch the Varsity Tutors program throughout our district. This service provides our students with instant access to live tutors to support their academic progress.
Clarendon County School District (CCSD) strives to provide equitable learning experiences for all learners! Over the course of the past two summers (2023 and 2024), we have been able to provide our Gifted and Talented learners with two consecutives summers to be engaged in enrichment opportunities that supported their academic and/or artistic interests. This is the first summer camp of its kind in CCSD, and it was made possible through our partnership with the District Summer Learning Network (DSLN), where we were awarded $225,000.00 to be spent over the course of the two summers.
Our district has a proud tradition of offering robust Career and Technology Education (CATE) opportunities through the F.E. DuBose Career Center and Manning High School. Students can explore 16 career clusters, with access to over 60 CATE courses and the potential to earn more than 100 state-recognized credentials as part of their secondary education.
In recent years, we have expanded these opportunities through partnerships with Central Carolina Technical College (CCTC) and USC Sumter, allowing our students to earn Dual Enrollment Credits and even an Associate of Arts degree while completing their S.C. High School Diploma. This year alone, two students achieved their Associate of Arts degrees, bringing the total to approximately 32 students who have earned this distinction alongside their high school diploma over the past four years.
In Clarendon County School District (CCSD) we have a renewed focused on “teaching and learning.” We are an educational organization that prides itself on its commitment to continuous improvement, as we unwaveringly strive to meet the diverse needs of our students, to ensure that they are all college and career ready!
