Jasper County School District is helping all students develop the world class skills, and the life and career characteristics of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate. By providing a variety of learning opportunities for students to cultivate the social and academic skills needed to compete locally, state-wide, nationally, and internationally Jasper County is demonstrating its motto: “Student-Centered. Future-Focused!” The district is moving forward to provide a whole-child approach to education for all students. We partnering with T.R.U.E Empowering and Associates LLC to provide diversity, equity, and inclusion training to teachers and staff. Through this partnership, the JCSD LEAD (Leading Equity And Diversity) Core Team was created to assist with this initiative.
Within Jasper County School District, safety remains a focus. The district employed a certified nurse designated to provide students and staff with COVID-19 updates, in addition to, school nurses at each school site. All Jasper County School District buses are equipped with GPS, Barcodes, and Tablets which allow parents to know where and when their child boards and exits a bus. The software also allows parents the ability to track the bus route in real-time.
Professional development is critical for district improvement, and this work continued during COVID through virtual platforms. Kagan, AVID, MTSS strategies, ACT/SAT test prep, and additional professional development opportunities were offered to staff district-wide. Certified staff retention rates increased from 75% during school year 2019-2020 to 87% during school year 2020-2021.
Instructionally, during school year 2020-2021, district-wide curriculum guides and common assessments were developed. The district opened a CTE Center which provides developed pathways for students to be career ready. Jasper County School District is a South Carolina eLearning district. All students are 1 to 1 with technology and mobile hot spots are provided for families as needed, the district is also a pilot district for SCETV Alternative to Internet program (1 of only 3 pilots in the state). An activity bus was redesigned into a STEM bus. This allows students the opportunity to not only experience Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math in our labs district-wide, but also experience STEM in the community!
Jasper County School District remains committed to providing clear and open communication for parents and community through digital / social media, automated phone calls, email blasts, and website alerts. Community partnerships with USC-Beaufort, the Technical College of the Lowcountry, United Way, and Sun City provide support to our students and staff. These partnerships and community volunteers assist the district in providing a world class education. Looking towards the future, Jasper County School District has announced the opening of a Language Immersion Program, Early-College/Duel Enrollment Courses, and Virtual Academy.
