“Handle Hard Better” was the theme for Woodruff High School during 2025-2026 school year. Students were challenged to change their way of thinking, stop waiting for things to get easier, and instead become the person who handles “hard” well. Students were encouraged to push through, not to give up, and to help others along the way, thus proving to themselves that they can handle “hard” better which will better prepare them for their future. Woodruff High School prepares students through its academic rigor, its foundation in discipline, its athletic tradition, and its many opportunities to get involved. The community also aided in the Handle Hard Better mindset thanks to their continued support of academic rigor and co-curricular excellence that are second to none. The US News and World Report ranked Woodruff High School as one of the top three high schools in Spartanburg County. The senior class received a cumulative total of $4,974,502 in scholarships. Over seventy percent of the class received some scholarship award. One hundred eleven seniors received LIFE Scholarships, and ten seniors were named Palmetto Fellows. Additionally, two seniors received the prestigious South Carolina Academic Award.
In addition to an excellent academic year, Woodruff High School had another outstanding year in the visual and performing arts. Five seniors collectively won six Eastern Scholastic Awards. One senior was awarded second place in Digital Design in the 2025 Converse Young and Emerging Competition. Four seniors collectively won four ribbons through the Piedmont Interstate Fair. This senior class led the Woodruff High School Marching Band in several successful competitions during the twenty-five/twenty-five season and achieved third in Upper State competition and third overall in State competition. The concert band received the highest award given by the South Carolina Band Directors Association – the Outstanding Performance Award with Distinction. Success was also achieved in the athletic venue. Woodruff High School produced thirty-four scholar athletes. One team won a district championship, three teams won region championships, and five teams finished as region runner-up. Sixty-four students were named All-Region athletes. Twenty Woodruff High School athletes were named All-State athletes. Moreover, Woodruff High School athletes reached the playoffs in sixteen sports.
During the 2025-2026 school year, Woodruff High School continued to emphasize self-discipline, student involvement, communication, and caring attitudes. Throughout the school year, the “Handle Hard Better” initiative of Woodruff High School grew not only inside the school but outside the school as well thanks to the involvement and commitment of the community, the students, and the staff.
Our goal in the 2026-2027 school year is to uphold the Woodruff High School tradition of leading the state of South Carolina in academic achievement, athletic accomplishments and artistic endeavors.
