During the 2025–2026 school year, Kingsbury Elementary School celebrated many accomplishments while continuing to support students in developing the world-class skills outlined in the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate. Our school remains committed to providing innovative and challenging learning experiences in a safe, supportive, and culturally responsive environment. Through our STEAM program, students engage in collaborative, hands-on learning opportunities that foster communication, creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills across all content areas. Qweebi modules further enhance these experiences by encouraging students to apply the STEAM model to real-world situations and everyday challenges.
Kingsbury Elementary strives to maximize the potential of every child through strong relationships, high expectations, and quality instruction. Faculty and staff work collaboratively to implement highly effective instructional practices, including small-group instruction in reading and mathematics, differentiated instruction, cross-curricular integration, and the use of Project Lead The Way kits in science instruction. Reading interventionists provide targeted support to strengthen foundational literacy skills, while our math interventionist works closely with teachers and students to support mastery of grade-level standards for at-risk learners.
The Kingsbury STEAM Lab continues to provide meaningful, hands-on learning experiences that empower students to develop a design-thinking mindset through engaging projects and problem-solving activities connected to the world around them. Additionally, the engineering design process is embedded throughout classroom instruction across grade levels. The “Read to Succeed” initiative remains a priority and is supported through ongoing professional development opportunities for staff. During this school year, faculty and staff also continued their Leader in Me journey through the implementation of CORE 1 principles, while deepening their understanding of trauma-informed practices and de-escalation strategies to better support students’ social-emotional growth, self-regulation, and healthy coping skills. Across all instructional areas, the Kingsbury team remains committed to promoting best practices and providing the resources necessary to increase student achievement.
Kingsbury Elementary is equally committed to developing well-rounded students through strong academic, artistic, and leadership opportunities. This year, the fine arts department showcased student talents through winter and spring performances that integrated dance, drama, and music. Kingsbury again qualified for the ABC (Arts in Basic Curriculum) Grant, which supports comprehensive arts programming through artist residencies, student performances, strategic planning, and standards-based arts initiatives.
Leadership development continues to be a central focus at Kingsbury through the implementation of the Leader in Me framework. Students work to develop leadership habits each month by setting personal goals, earning Leader Leaves, and monitoring their own progress. Students are also encouraged to recognize the importance of service and community involvement. Throughout the year, Kingsbury students participated in several service-learning initiatives, including a toy drive for a local ministry, Jump Rope for Heart Health, Relay for Life, and Lids for Kids. We look forward to continuing our partnership with Franklin Covey as we progress toward becoming a fully recognized Leader in Me School.
At Kingsbury Elementary, we share a common belief that all children can learn and all children can lead. Through the dedication and collaboration of our faculty, staff, families, and community partners, students are provided with extraordinary learning experiences and opportunities for success. Our 2025–2026 school theme, “Onward & Upward,” reflected the determination and commitment demonstrated throughout our school community this year. Partnerships with local businesses, churches, Shaw Air Force Base, and community organizations—including Outback Steakhouse, Food Lion, Piggly Wiggly, Christ Community Church, Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, First Presbyterian Church, Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Jackson-Hewitt, Relay for Life, and Alice Drive Baptist Church—continue to positively impact our students, staff, and families. Kingsbury Elementary is grateful for the continued support of our community as we work together to develop leaders, lifelong learners, and productive members of a global society.
