THIS IS WHERE THE LEARNING HAPPENS!
This is indeed what we believe at Sunset Park Center for Accelerated Studies. During the 2023-2024 school year, our school has seen a lot of learning academically, emotionally, socially, as well as physically. We are proud of our accomplishments within and beyond the school walls. We believe that every opportunity is a chance to learn whether it be academic standards, preparing for performances such as our Veterans Day program, the Black History program or our Annie Jr. performance, family nights including the Gingerbread Math Bash and the Read to Learn About the World Spring Fling *Title I events*. Additionally, our Fun Run, Hornets Reading Bus, Community Readers, and field studies have provided many learning opportunities as well. Our community support has been one that we could never imagine. Hence, bringing forth other opportunities for learning with a monthly birthday table, books galore, generous donations for students and staff, event sponsorship, general support, and much more!
We have delved into Added Value Targets set forth by the state of South Carolina and strive to meet the standard of expectation to ensure our students are on trajectory towards being on grade level by the time they reach eighth grade. Additionally, we strive to ensure that our students are college and career ready and meet the Profile of a South Carolina Graduate. Our work with the state department and the Office of Personalized Learning has been instrumental in our focus on the profile and allow the competencies to guide our work to address the needs of our learners. We look forward to this continued work in the upcoming school year.
Our SIC and PTO have supported our school in numerous ways including developing surveys to gain feedback for continuous improvement, working to increase parent and community involvement, providing sessions on school data for families, parent engagement strategies, and Title I initiatives, participating and advocating in district and community initiatives, and more. Likewise, our SIC and PTO were instrumental in advocating for a new school facility for our school. Proudly, we will open a new Sunset Park Center for Accelerated Studies in August of 2026. This has been an exciting adventure as we seek our school family and community’s input to build a state of the art school that our students will call their own while preserving the history of the current Sunset Park which will celebrate 70 years of existence in October of 2024.

We seek to live our mission “We will create a child-centered learning environment where ALL children learn at high levels.” We believe in Children First and this year has captured many moments that focus on our children!
