The Profile of the South Carolina Graduate emphasizes world-class knowledge, world-class skills, and life and career characteristics. The staff at Woodruff Elementary School is committed to supporting students as they develop these areas to be prepared for college, employment, or home living after graduation. Spartanburg Four has very high expectations for students to exhibit high integrity and to understand how to communicate and work with one another. Spartanburg District Four continues to hold high expectations in the areas of discipline and academics, understanding that the former significantly affects the latter.
Currently, the Read to Succeed coach works with one reading teacher and six interventionists to provide additional direct instruction based on the needs of the students. This new intervention system embodies the school’s belief that we should have high expectations for students and provide support in all areas. The data gathered from our intervention program shows that it is working. The results of the 2024 SC Ready Reading assessment indicate that the number of students scoring Not Met 1 has significantly dropped.
Since our teachers have a plethora of knowledge to share, we had weekly professional development opportunities in which we utilized teacher led sessions. Some of these sessions included “Effective Strategies in Classroom Management,” “Interpreting Data to Implement Small Group Instruction,” “Science Standards Training,” “Mental Health Training,” and a book study on Shifting the Balance which focuses on the science of reading approach to literacy. Professional development in ELA was provided by the SC Department of Education which our reading coach and a reading teacher attended before training our faculty.
By focusing on our purpose statement where we are driven to "... Create a community of learners where each student is provided with a quality education in a safe, supportive environment that promotes self-discipline, motivation, and excellence in learning to manage life's challenges successfully,” we believe WES will set forth students who will be successful graduates and productive citizens that reflect World Class Skills of the Profile of a South Carolina Graduate.
