This year, Ebenezer Avenue Elementary’s theme "Trust the Process," recognizes that meaningful growth happens when we work together, stay focused on student needs, and commit to continuous improvement. Our staff collaborated as a team to identify school-wide priorities, monitor student subgroups, adjust plans when needed, and remain responsive to data throughout the year.
As a Leader in Me school, we entered Year 2 of implementation, deepening our commitment to leadership development and student ownership. One of our most significant areas of focus was mathematics, identified as a key opportunity for growth based on SC Ready and school level formative data. Through the Leader in Me framework, students and staff established Wildly Important Goals (WIGs) aligned to math achievement and worked intentionally toward measurable progress in the area of math fluency. Through using student base line data to establish student goals, bi-weekly fluency assessments, and strategies taught our staff reinforced a culture of leadership and continuous improvement.
Our staff continued to grow professionally through high-quality professional development and a strengthened commitment to collaborative learning. Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) were implemented consistently across grade levels and teams, creating a structured process for analyzing student data, planning instruction, and monitoring student progress. Through these ongoing PLC conversations, staff aligned instructional practices, reflected on student outcomes, and identified strategic next steps, strengthening our collective teacher efficacy and ensuring a more cohesive approach to teaching and learning.
In addition, we remained committed to transparency and stakeholder engagement by regularly communicating our progress with families and community members through School Improvement Council (SIC) meetings. These meetings provided opportunities to share school improvement efforts, review student achievement data, and gather feedback from stakeholders. School leadership also presented progress updates to the school board, ensuring that our goals, accomplishments, and areas for continued growth were clearly communicated and aligned with district priorities. Our team engaged our families in parent workshops centered around math and reading and ways to support at home.
Throughout the year, we remained focused on our commitment to student progress and growth. Our educators focused on meeting each learner’s needs through small group instruction, targeted supports, high quality instruction, and engaging, hands-on learning experiences. Students explored integrated units in science, connected with expert speakers, such as speakers from 4H presenting about dairy goats, local firefighters, emergency management, and horticulturists. Our students participated in meaningful projects from skateboard parks, roller coasters, and land features that fueled curiosity and deepened their understanding.
As we move forward, we will continue to celebrate our successes, recognize growth and achievement across our school community, and build upon the student leadership opportunities established through our Leader in Me journey. By empowering students to lead, take ownership of their learning, and contribute positively to our school culture, we will continue strengthening a learning environment where every Eagle can thrive, learn, and lead.
