Our school is dedicated to providing all students the ability to develop world class skills in life and career characteristics as outlined in the South Carolina Profile of the Graduate by inspiring and empowering them to excel academically, artistically, and athletically.
Starr-Iva Middle School is proud to have the reputation of a strong community-based school that cares and invests in each and every student that enters its doors. Student-Centered and Individualized Learning are central themes within the school and guide many of the decisions made within. Starr-Iva faculty and staff regularly participate in professional development opportunities that are designed to meet the needs of our students while also promoting collaboration amongst teachers and different departments. In direct partnership and collaboration with Anderson School District Three, Starr-Iva Middle School continues to be a 1:1 school with each student (Grades 6-8) receiving a Chromebook to use in each of their classes and to serve as an extension of the school building when not in session. With the full return of in-person learning this year, we were able to continue utilizing the 1:1 devices within the classroom and as needed for eLearning days.
Starr-Iva Middle School is proud to say in the 2022-2023 the school was designated as a National Blue Ribbon Lighthouse School of Excellence. The school went through a rigorous evaluation process to receive this designation and can claim this title for five years before going back through the re-evaluation process.
Starr-Iva Middle School is also proud to offer multiple opportunities for excellence in the arts and in athletics. Students interested in the fine arts may choose from Orchestra, Band, Chorus, General Music, or Art. Those interested in STEM courses may select from Robotics, Gateway to Technology (Project Lead the Way), Interactive Science, Computer Science, and General Technology Courses. Our school also has the exciting opportunity to offer Spanish to our students as a regular class or as a high school credit course. Other courses offered include Pro-Team, Physical Education, Health, and Yearbook. Athletically students have the opportunity to participate in football, volleyball, baseball, wrestling, and basketball at the middle school level or they may choose to participate in other sports through the local high school.
Communication is a focus and a point of emphasis at Starr-Iva Middle School. Our goal is for each and every stakeholder to know and understand what is happening within our building at all times. This is accomplished with online and published lessons plans from teachers, weekly robo-calls by the principal to our families, electronic notifications through email and text, digital signage, as well as multiple other avenues. As outlined in the Profile, through strong communication and collaboration, Starr-Iva Middle School provides our students with experiences to think creatively and critically, develop essential organizational tools and skills, and participate in real-world experiences to help our students be college-and-career ready.
