“Be a Wolverine” was the theme for Woodruff High School during 2022-2023 school year. Students were encouraged to be a Good Samaritan, to Take Pride, and to Be Involved. These three characteristics encompass the level of excellence established by years of outstanding Woodruff High School alumni which include hard work, commitment, involvement, and communication. The students and faculty of Woodruff High are continually blessed by a generous community that supports academic rigor, co-curricular excellence, and facilities that are second to none. The US News and World Report ranked Woodruff High School as the number one high school in Spartanburg County. The senior class received a cumulative total of $3,877,790 in scholarships. Over seventy-five percent of the class received some scholarship award. Sixty-nine seniors received LIFE Scholarships and fourteen seniors were named Palmetto Fellows. Additionally, four seniors received the prestigious South Carolina Academic Award.
In addition to an excellent academic year, Woodruff High School had another outstanding year in the visual and performing arts. Five students collectively won twelve Eastern Scholastic Awards. One senior placed second in the annual Congressional Art Competition. Another placed third in Mixed Media in the Young Emerging Artists Exhibition. And one placed third in Photography and Acrylic Painting in the Piedmont Interstate Fair. This senior class led the Woodruff High School Marching Band in several successful competitions during the twenty/twenty-two season and achieving seventh place at the Upper State Band Competition. The Woodruff High Cadets achieved eighth place overall and third place in music at the state competition. The concert band received an Excellent rating at the State Concert Performance Assessment. Additionally, the band received the Outstanding Performance Award, the most prestigious award given by the South Carolina Band Directors’ Association (SCBDA).
Success was also achieved in the athletic venue. Woodruff High School produced forty-two scholar athletes. Six teams were crowned region champions. Seventy-five students were named All-Region athletes. Thirteen Woodruff High School athletes were named All-State athletes. Moreover, Woodruff High School had three athletes selected to an All-Star team and reached the playoffs in sixteen sports. One team won a 3A state title.
During the 2022-2023 school year, Woodruff High School continued to emphasize self-discipline, student involvement, communication, and caring attitudes. Throughout the school year, the “Be a Wolverine” initiative of Woodruff High School grew not only inside the school but outside the school as well thanks to the involvement and commitment of the community, the students, and the staff.
Our goal in the 2023-2024 school year is to uphold the Woodruff High School tradition of leading the state of South Carolina in academic achievement, athletic accomplishments and artistic endeavors.
