North Central High School (NCHS) is helping all students develop the world class skills and characteristics of the Profile of the Graduate by empowering our students to become responsible, lifelong learners who will be productive citizens in a global society. We provide our students with a learning environment that promotes creativity, curiosity and collaboration. We promote a positive family culture that increases student engagement and achievement. The 2023-2024 school year had many academic challenges and successes. Our staff did a great job of being flexible and dedicated while providing face-to-face and virtual instruction. We use High Schools That Work (HSTW) principles to improve student achievement and prepare our students for life after high school. These include weekly T.E.A.M. (Together Everyone Achieves More) classes, learning centers, and reading and writing across the curriculum. Our weekly T.E.A.M. classes focus on soft skills such as communication, perseverance, leadership, teamwork and self-awareness. Our daily learning centers provide students with the opportunity to receive a time of enrichment and remediation for each of their classes. We offer five Advanced Placement (AP) courses and numerous dual-enrollment courses through a partnership with Central Carolina Technical College that allows our students the opportunity to obtain college credit. Eighty-three percent of the 2024 seniors graduated on time. North Central High was one of only ten South Carolina high schools to receive national recognition for having a high percentage of female students take and pass the AP Computer Science exam.
At NCHS, we also develop our students outside of the classroom. We offer our students a wide variety of sports and activities to participate in. Several of our athletic teams were region champions and competed well in the state playoffs. Numerous athletes and coaches were selected as region coaches and players of the year. Club Knights allows both our students and staff to meet monthly and engage in a personal interest/hobby. Our Top Knight program is a monthly recognition of students who have exhibited outstanding character, improved grades, good attendance and positive attitudes. The BRAVE initiative reinforces positive student behaviors. North Central is home to a school-based health clinic supported by the Community Medical Clinic. This allowed students access to a nurse practitioner during the school day. Through a partnership with the University of South Carolina, wellness coaches meet students to address mental wellness. During this past year, our student organizations raised money or gave supplies to various civic and community organizations. All of the stakeholders at NCHS are committed to developing well-rounded students and will remain focused on preparing all of our students for success in any career or educational path they choose.
