Hardeeville Junior-High School completed its first year as a reconfigured 6th thru 12th grade campus. During the 2022-2023 our campus focused on developing our students with World Class Skills as defined through the Profile of the South Graduate. Since 2012, our campus educated all middle school students in Jasper County South Carolina. JCSD implemented a modified year-round calendar during the 2022-2023 school year that allowed opportunities for remediation and acceleration for our students during intersession days scheduled throughout the school year. Our 2022-2023 school year focused on recreating our Junior-Senior High School format and implementing best practices to ensure all students are college and career ready.
HJSHS prides itself on providing all students with the opportunity to develop the necessary skills to become a world-class student. At HJSHS we aim to create a safe school environment, provide our students with a dedicated faculty that implements best practices, instruct through an engaging curriculum, and ensures a collaborative classroom environment that promotes student engagement and achievement. Our school-wide motto for the 2022-2023 academic year “Encourage-Empower-Elevate”, has allowed our students to enhance the necessary skills and career characteristics of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate.
HJSHS students are challenged daily in the four academic classes, which are based on rigorous standards that promote world-class knowledge. Our middle school students may earn high school credits by demonstrating mastery in Algebra I, English I, and through science and social studies courses. Our middle school students also have the opportunity to complement our core academics, through a STEM lab which offers exploratory opportunities with 3-D printers, flight simulators, and other avenues that enhance hands-on, collaborative learning opportunities. Our high school students have the opportunity to complete career pathways at our JCSD CTE Center or through BJACE, our career technical campus that is shared with BCSD. HJSHS students are able to complete dual-enrollment courses, certificate pathways, or earn an associate degree through the Technical College of the Low-Country or University of South Carolina Beaufort.
Through our school district's digital initiative, HJSHS is proud to say we are a one-to-one school. Students are provided devices to promote deeper learning in the disciplines, personalize learning, and better meet each student's academic needs. Using i-Ready as our diagnostic tool, as a staff we continue to gather and analyze data to support student growth, provide remediation and enrichment as we continue our pursuit of high academic achievement by all students. To support our students social/emotional needs, a new social-emotional learning team, joined our school and worked closely with our office of student services.
Additionally, we offer a variety of sports teams and extracurricular activities that support our students’ interests and opportunity to exhibit school pride. Our concert band, honor band, and winter guard team compete annually at the local and state level bringing home ratings of Excellent and Superior throughout the year. In addition to our athletic and fine arts opportunities, our student government demonstrated leadership and community service in numerous areas throughout the academic year.
Our teachers and staff work in their professional learning communities on a weekly basis reviewing data to make informed decisions about teaching and learning and receive training that will enhance student achievement. During the 2022-2023, teachers and staff received professional development that focused on: MTSS, i-Ready, MyAccess, rigor and relevance, social and emotional learning, SIOP models, and technology. In addition, teachers and support staff members have been afforded multiple opportunities to attend conferences throughout the state of South Carolina.
To recognize the academic growth of our students, we implemented activities that promoted students who demonstrated diagnostic growth throughout the year, held a formal promotion ceremony for our eighth-grade students, conducted a school-wide book giveaway at the end of the school year, and celebrated our schools first high school graduation since 2012.
