J. L. Mann High School is helping all students develop the world class skills of the profile of the South Carolina graduate through magnet programs such as our Academy of Math, Science, and Technology. NewTech@Mann is an innovative project-based learning model that functions as a school-within-a-school. Both the magnet and NewTech@Mann are examples of how we maintain and enhance our reputation for academic, extracurricular, and athletic excellence for 58 years.
J. L. Mann High School students continued their record of accomplishments in the 2022-2023 school year. The Graduating Class of 2023 were included 54 students qualifying for Palmetto Fellows, and 293 qualifying for LIFE scholarships. The class also boasted AP Scholars and AP Capstone recipients. The graduating class received a total of $14,902,053 in scholarship money.
J. L. Mann High School continued the tradition of innovative programs in the 2022-2023 school year. The after-school tutoring programs continued to support achievement by reducing the number of students failing courses school-wide. Additionally, students had the opportunity to participate in academic programs such as Accelerate, NewTech@Mann, the Magnet program, the Fine Arts Center, and the Golden Strip Career Center. Additionally, this school year, students will have the opportunity to attend the Innovation Center.
J.L. Mann High School’s PTSA continues to be one of the largest and most active statewide for the 2022-23 school year. The PTSA awarded mini-grants to teachers to help fund innovative ideas and reimbursed them for classroom supplies. J. L. Mann PTSA also sponsored Red Ribbon Week. The School Improvement Council (SIC) continues to assist and advise the administration in important matters. The Booster Club helped continue the Mann athletic tradition by raising money for the teams in addition to the campaign to furnish the new weight room. The new weight room was completed and dedicated in the Fall of 2022. The PTSA, SIC, and Booster Club are integral partners with the school.
J. L. Mann sports teams continued to perform well on the field. More than 800 athletes competed in 21 sports and on 36 teams. Boys tennis won the State Championship, and girls tennis, girls lacrosse, and girls soccer captured Upper State Championships. Seven teams won region championships this school year.
The J. L. Mann robotics team won the state championship for the second consecutive year and competed at the World Championships. The JROTC Armed Battalion competed at the National Championships for their armed exhibition routine.
Students also have many opportunities in the arts at J. L. Mann. The marching band competed at several band competitions, including the Upper State Championship. They earned many honors in those competitions. The chorus held a Winter and Spring concert as well as performed at graduation. The theatre department put on a play in the Fall and musical in the Spring. The visual arts department had several students win prizes in juried art competitions as well as held their own J. L. Mann juried art show in the Spring.
Through a combination of past accomplishments and a commitment to improvement, J. L. Mann High School will continue to meet the challenges of the 21st century with innovation and enthusiasm as we provide a variety of opportunities to students!
