GREEN Charter School Lowcountry successfully completed its second year of operation for the 2022-2023 school year. School enrollment for the year was 201 students, serving kindergarten through seventh grades.
GREEN Lowcountry is located in North Charleston. The school prepares students for life in the 21st century by challenging and directing them toward mastery in areas such as problem-solving, teamwork, and communication. Part of the GREEN Charter Network in South Carolina, our school’s educational model focuses on STEM and environmental sustainability.
GREEN Lowcountry is proud of the spirit that defined our school culture during its first year of operation. It was evident that teaching and learning were thriving. We are exceptionally proud and appreciative of our Parent Task Force which works closely with our Parent/Teacher Liaison Committee to host fun and collaborative activities for our families.
The diversity of GREEN Lowcountry’s student body is an additional asset to our learning community. Our student demographics for the 2021-2022 school year were as follows: 29% White; 57% Black/African American; 2% Hispanic/Latino; 4% Two or More Races; and less than 1% for Asian and American Indian. 71% percent of the student population participated in free or reduced lunch.
While we continue to be proud of our accomplishments, there is more to do to ensure consistent and systematic student growth from year to year. We will continue to focus our professional development goals on the use of building highly effective teachers, integrating and aligning our current STEM curriculums with South Carolina College and Career Ready Standards, and enhancing reading, writing, listening, vocabulary, and comprehension for our students. Additionally, as we diligently work to achieve academic and behavior goals, we will continue our work on increasing parental involvement and community engagement. GREEN Lowcountry believes that it takes all stakeholders working together to achieve the most!
At GREEN, we believe that every member of our learning communities - our students, staff, parents, and leaders - is deserving of a Voice and Choice in academic, social, and professional pursuits. This is a highly prized ideal embedded within the GREEN strategic plan as well as a brand promise of the school’s leaders and its Board.
