Our school is helping all students develop the World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by continuing to work together to create a nurturing, calm, safe environment to provide quality first instruction to all of our learners.
Last year we had the opportunity to get to know many new students and families after rezoning and the closing of several schools. We have enjoyed getting to know our new families and students and will continue to get to know our newly added families.
Evidence of our dedication to the success of all students can be found in having 100% of our 3rd graders meet required Read to Succeed scores resulting in all 3rd graders being promoted to fourth grade. This work on the part of teachers, interventionists, and coaches requires team planning, focused intervention, and constant communication.
As a Title I school, we worked hard to stay connected with our families through educational sessions including academic, fine arts, and mental health sessions. This afforded us the chance to share parenting strategies, resources for families, and celebrations of the work and talents of our students.
Our PTA encouraged students and teachers with treats this year as well as meeting teacher sponsorship requests for teacher grants and materials to help facilitate learning. Teachers, staff, and students in our building are well taken care of by our dedicated PTA team.
Our SIC met faithfully to discuss ways we could support existing students and staff, and ways to welcome and support our new teachers. We discussed the "big rocks" that will give us the leverage we need to make great changes and how our SIC can support our school reaching goals set for improved test scores and the emotional support of our students and families.
Our school leadership team is dedicated to making York Road Elementary a school in which everyone is successful and valued. We feel confident that we can reach our goals with the awesome support we receive from our district and community.
