Edisto Elementary School is helping all students develop the world-class skills and life and career characteristics of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate. Our vision and core belief is that all students can and will succeed and it is our responsibility to provide them with the instruction necessary to assist them in increasing their academic achievement. At the beginning of each school year students take the IReady Test-An adaptive test in which the difficulty of the test is adjusted to the student's performance. The results of the IReady score describes the students' achievement and growth and provides teachers with immediate feedback that assists in individualizing instruction based on the students' needs. Furthermore, lesson plans are written weekly to ensure standards-based curriculum is being implemented daily and teachers meet weekly in PLC sessions. Moreover, Data Teams and Instructional Planning Teams meet weekly to discuss pedagogy and to analyze student work in efforts to help them improve.
Moreover, teachers, administrators and coaches collaborate weekly to provide formal observation feedback from classroom walkthroughs to strengthen teacher practices. Teachers throughout the school work diligently to make sure curriculum guides, common assessments, and daily instruction align with all South Carolina Content Standards. From the data, research-based strategies and interventions are implemented to address students’ weaknesses and interventions are provided for our students based on the analysis of the data. Additionally, teachers are provided resources, such as math manipulatives, workbooks and leveled novels to meet the individual needs of students. Several network software programs are also available to enhance student performance in all tested areas for a variety of ability levels. Moreover, several teachers within the school have also been trained in technology and Differentiated Instruction to enhance individualized learning.
Consequently, in order to meet the diverse needs of our student population, our school family provides many programs that are designed to meet student’s individual social/emotional needs and to develop their talents and interests by providing several extra-curricular activities and other opportunities such as The Orangeburg Leadership Academy, Sister’s Keepers and Beta Club. Furthermore, we are fortunate to have active community involvement and outreach programs such as the School Improvement Council, Parent Teacher Student Organization, and the Watch D.O.G.S. Mentoring Program,
Finally, by focusing on our theme Building a Legacy of Excellence we will continue to provide programs and initiatives that are designed to meet the specific needs of our student population in our efforts to continue to provide them a World Class Education.
