Wood Elementary School 2022-2023
Wood Elementary School helps all students reach the levels necessary to meet the Profile of the South Carolina graduate. Our school community continues to be committed to a culture of collaboration in order to build positive relationships that support meaningful opportunities to cultivate productive citizens. Through targeted instruction at every grade level, we ensure all students develop the essential skills necessary for critical thinking, collaboration, and effective communication in an ever-changing world. These combined efforts result in Wood Elementary School LEADING and LEARNING everyday!
By consistently setting high expectations, all students in grades 4K-5th grade are provided challenging learning experiences differentiated to their individual academic, social, and emotional needs. The culture of a Professional Learning Community permeates instructional planning and facilitates data-driven decision making as teams of teachers implement a viable curriculum composed of the state standards. As discussion is student-centered, students are provided assistance or enrichment through our Multi-tiered Systems of Support (MTSS). Additionally, we focus on maintaining student attendance and reducing the student chronic absenteeism rate through regular weekly meetings of our Attendance Intervention Team. School administrators, counselors, social workers, and administrative staff work together with parents to ensure students are in school, on time, each and every day.
Throughout the school year, groups of identified students participated in the Lex 2.5 after-school program providing academic support. Each month, teams of teachers introduce and practice research-based instructional strategies and come together to share artifacts and celebrate student learning. Through our special areas, teachers guide students to expand and apply their learning through STEM, coding/robotics, art, music, and physical education.
This year, Wood Elementary benefited from increased partnerships with a neighborhood Food Lion and Pine Ridge Pharmacy. Additionally, we continued our partnership with Midlands Reading Consortium, a literacy-based mentorship, and Communities in Schools which provided so many items and activities for our students to include shoes and socks for ALL! Our students also were given the opportunity to participate in our faith-based mentoring program through Good News Club as well as Run Hard, a character and health education running club where students completed a 5K with other surrounding schools.
The faculty, staff, and administration at Wood Elementary will continue to provide opportunities for our students to develop skills needed to become productive citizens with a bright future ahead of them, ready for both college and career. We will see this continued progress through our daily commitment to LEADING and LEARNING.
