The mission of Waccamaw Intermediate School is to provide a nurturing and safe environment full of diverse learning experiences that enable all students to become caring and productive lifelong learners in a global and technological society. It is this approach that makes Waccamaw Intermediate such an inviting, warm, safe, and child-centered school.
We are a school that has high expectations for every child. Teachers follow the state’s curriculum for all areas of instruction. Teachers and administration work closely together to analyze data for the whole child meeting their academic, social, and emotional needs. Student growth is a priority and expectation at WIS, which is why teachers provide targeted instruction at all levels. Daily instruction is infused with current technology such as one-to-one Chromebooks, smart boards, and many other instructional technology resources. Additionally WIS has developed a character education program that rewards students for their positive behavior. These best practices are made evident by our assessment results and the overall climate at WIS.
Students are encouraged to participate in extracurricular activities which include Band, Steel Drum Band, Chorus, Art Enrichment, First Tee Golf, Girls on the Run, and drama performances.
Parent support at Waccamaw Intermediate is outstanding. Our parents and community members have provided an overwhelming amount of support through their time, talents, and gifts. The PTO has provided resources for our classrooms and have helped fund learning opportunities and fun events for our students. We at Waccamaw Intermediate School are Growing an Achieving, Thoughtful, Optimistic, and Respectful School community.
