In order to prepare our students to compete in a global society, Harleyville Elementary School will continue to commit to helping all students develop the World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate.
Harleyville Elementary understands the importance of building a strong educational foundation and the impact it has on the educational career of a child and his or her future success. Our early childhood programs, Head Start and the South Carolina Early Reading Development and Education Program (CERDEP), provide essential skills necessary such as social and cognitive development. Through the analysis of data from both programs, the teachers are able to differentiate instruction in the classroom to meet the needs of each student before he or she enters kindergarten.
A strong emphasis is placed on phonemic awareness in the primary grade levels as well as building number sense. In all grade levels a structured literacy model known as the science of reading was used to teach literacy. Teachers were provided support by participating in relevant LETRS professional development.
The after school program at HES is also an essential component to helping our students build the world class skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate. Our after school program focused on growing our students academically as well as promoting other domains that impact the development of the whole child. The students received instructional support and exposure to various enrichment activities such as financial literacy and culinary.
HES implemented a strong social emotional learning program. Our school counselor provided structured SEL lessons in the classrooms that addressed dealing with the emotions of our students, showing empathy towards others, and making positive decisions.
Through student engagement, building relationships, continuous data analysis, and ongoing professional development we continue to strive towards excellence in our school. “Helping Everyone Succeed” is not only our motto but it also shows our commitment to develop life-long learners who will have a positive impact on our global world.
