Blenheim Middle School of Discovery is a rural public school serving a diverse population of 528 sixth-grade through eighth-grade students. We are committed to providing opportunities for students to develop the world-class knowledge, world-class skills, and life and career characteristics of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by providing a safe, caring, nurturing environment and academically rigorous instruction. These skills are essential before students transition to college or careers. We are also committed to raising the academic achievement of all students through project-based learning, arts integration, and cross-curricula literacy integration. We continue to implement new instructional strategies to personalize learning for each student. BMSD teachers participate in professional development sessions throughout the school year. Sessions are developed and determined based upon data collected from various assessments, teacher surveys, observations, student needs, and school-wide and district goals. We continue to embrace research-based instructional practices, character education, parent communication, data analysis, and technology and arts integration across all content areas.
Teachers continue to incorporate technology to maximize students’ understanding of content and concepts. We continued implementing the 1:1 model; the technology department provided all students with a Chromebook for learning. The district added an instructional technologist to the team to assist and train teachers on using these devices to best benefit instruction. Teachers and students use the devices to engage students through Nearpod, check for understanding (Padlet), create digital notes (Jamboard), research, and many other creative avenues.
Blenheim Middle School of Discovery strives for excellence in academics, arts, and athletics. We provide opportunities for students to participate in visual and performing arts through art, band, chorus, and dance. Our students perform in school and community events. We offer a STEM lab that helps prepare students for possible majors and future careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
Blenheim Middle School of Discovery follows a high expectation and continuous improvement model, focusing on student engagement and achievement. We make every effort to provide an educational environment in which all students have the opportunity to demonstrate that they have what it takes to “SOAR” (Superior Behaviors, Outstanding Attitude, Academically Focused, and Respectful Actions). Blenheim Middle School of Discovery faculty and staff will continuously strive to ensure students obtain the knowledge and skills required to be successful citizens in a global economy. We will continue to expose our students to people of different cultures and social groups so they may embrace diversity and be able to make connections with others. Our ultimate commitment is to ensure that every student excels every day.
