In the mission statement of Clinton Middle School, there are three pillars that define what Clinton Middle School strives to be to its stakeholders. The pillars focus on creating a safe and nurturing environment, promoting an instructional environment that is defined by high quality teaching and learning, and preparing students for a world beyond Clinton Middle School. Both directly and indirectly, these pillars support the development of world class skills that are outlined in the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate.
Clinton Middle School teachers showed a commitment to grow professionally to meet the needs of students. During the course of the 2021-22 school year, teachers participated in weekly professional development opportunities with their colleagues. Teachers were able to reinforce the world class skills expected of students through professional conversations and collaboration in the areas of creating an equitable learning environment, creating active learning opportunities for students, and differentiating to meet the needs of students. Teachers were able to take these strategies from the professional collaboration to the classroom and return to engage in conversations concerning the successes and challenges of the strategies that they used.
The 2021-22 school year saw the start of Clinton Middle School's Tier II intervention/enrichment program known as CAT (Challenging Academic Time). During this forty-seven minute period, students were provided with small group intervention to support their needs related to ELA or Math. Students who performed at or above grade level participated in academically challenging enrichment opportunities like Public Speaking, Project Based Learning, Creative Writing, and Literature Circles. These classes promoted creativity, innovation, collaboration, and problem-solving.
Clinton Middle School continued to offer academic opportunities to students beyond the traditional curriculum during the 2021-22 school year. High school credit bearing classes were available for students through course offerings such as English I, Algebra I, Spanish I, Discovering Computer Science, and AP Human Geography. The Wildcat Academy is an after-school program that extended learning opportunities through courses like Cooking with Science, Sketch Booking, Robotics, and Coding.
Clinton Middle School is proud of the accomplishments of our teachers, staff, and students over the course of the 2021-22 school year. In looking towards the future, our mission statement of creating a safe and nurturing learning environment, creating high quality teaching and learning experiences, and preparing students for the world beyond our school will serve as a catalyst as we continue to create experiences that support the world class skills that are the expectation for graduates from a South Carolina public school.
