Sanders Middle School helps all students with the development of world-class skills and life and career characteristics as outlined by the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate. During the 2021-22 school year we used this framework to focus our attention on growing and challenging our students each and every day. We’ve accomplished this by providing our students with multiple opportunities to think critically and communicate effectively to complete challenging and engaging tasks. In an effort to produce lifelong learners, we have worked to accomplish this task using a variety of teaching and learning strategies to engage our learners in many different ways.
Sanders continued a STEM focus in our science classrooms using the Science and Engineering Practices to achieve this success through inquiry, exploration, and collaboration. We also have a strong emphasis on literacy and continue to focus on helping our students develop an interest and love of reading for pleasure. Our students and teachers participated in the One Book, One District this year. Our goal is to keep our students engaged in reading high-interest texts. Our students participate daily in our district’s 30 for 30 reading initiative where they spend 30 minutes daily reading for pleasure at school and are encouraged to spend 30 minutes reading at home. Each student now has their own assigned Chromebook which they are allowed to take them home daily. Our students explore learning using a blended learning model approach as well as personalized learning. All of our classrooms are equipped with new ActivPanel Touchscreen Promethean Boards.
The vision of Sanders Middle School, in partnership with the community, is to engage students in an empowering curriculum that inspires excellence. Because of this standard of excellence, our students continuously excel. We are very proud of our student’s accomplishments throughout this challenging year. Sanders also has a very innovative and supportive team of teachers, staff, and PTA. As a learning community, we are always looking for ways to enhance and improve the overall learning environment for our students. With roots dating back to 1937, Sanders Middle School has served the surrounding community for nearly 8 decades. We strive daily to continue this standard of excellence.
