Our school is helping all students develop the World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by incorporating project-based learning and lab-based instruction in our classes. For the 2021-2022 school year, we moved in to a new facility for 7th and 8th grade students only. While the move was challenging to make over summer break, we are excited and thrilled to be in our new facility. This year has also proven to be a challenging one with the COVID-19 outbreak. We offered virtual learning for those students on quarantine. Not only has this been challenging for students, it’s been difficult for teachers as well. Teachers were tasked with teaching both in person students and virtual students synchronously. While not an easy task to do, teachers worked tirelessly to make it work. As the school year progressed, we moved towards a more “normal” setting. This included offering field trips, dances, and other activities students had not had the last couple of years. Even through the adversity this year, we still managed to accomplish several accomplishments. These include, FMAC 2021 Football champions, FMAC 2021 7th Grade Volleyball Champions, FMAC 2022 7th Grade Girls Basketball Champions, and 1st place for Academic Challenge in the SC State Championship
Indian Land Middle School continues to incorporate project-based learning and lab-based instruction in our classes. We work to offer equitable learning that is also fast-paced. While our students have one-to-one access to technology, we continue to value learning time in the school's Media Center. ILMS provides career exploration and career events, as well as Individual Graduation Planning conferences. We offer a variety of elective classes (STEM, Spanish, art, media/broadcasting, band, chorus, piano, and health/PE), as well as teaching and modeling character and spreading kindness within our building and in the community.
For the upcoming 2022-2023 school year, we are incorporating new encore classes such as Family & Consumer Science and Theater which we hope to provide students with more learning opportunities. We are also looking to provide an Accelerate program for rising 7th graders in the areas of Math and ELA. Our teachers also focus on teaching/learning strategies to support our students. These strategies include communication/collaboration, thinking/problem-solving, questioning, expectations, and feedback. These strategies reinforce the World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate. We value partnerships and stakeholders who are invested in the success of our students and parental involvement. The support from the various stakeholders support Indian Land Middle School’s goal of 100% Success!
