During the 2021-2022 school year, through communication, collaboration, and creativity — applied via multiple modalities — and during a life-changing event for all stakeholders, Lugoff-Elgin Middle School assisted all students in developing world class skills and life and career characteristics represented in the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate
Getting back to 100 percent face-to-face instruction allowed students to return to collaborating, creating projects and completing team activities throughout the year. They these experiences and used them to solve problems and motivate themselves into service to others.
Communication continued to be a focus to connect with students and teachers and to keep everyone motivated and engaged during the year, especially for those unable to attend in person due to quarantines, etc. We continued to work on our parent/school relationships as we got back to full classrooms and more project-based learning. Teachers and parents were challenged to become innovative in finding measures to engage students and keep them active in instruction and learning, to harness more effective means of communication, and to celebrate successes in new ways.
School administration and support services’ involvement in meeting students’ social-emotional needs continued to expand with more school and district based resources being made available to students, families and staff. Striking a balance among teacher-parent, administrator-parent, and school counselor-parent contact remained a priority. For the benefit of our students, our growth in this area has evolved throughout the year and will be ever-changing to meet the needs of our school and community.
Together with parents, community members, and business partners, Lugoff-Elgin Middle School was once again designated as a National Forum to Accelerate Middle-Grades Reform School to watch for the sixth time. Lugoff-Elgin Middle School continues to lead the state in Schools to Watch designations and we continue to evolve in meeting the criteria set for by Schools to Watch. Lugoff-Elgin Middle School continues to support and encourage students to develop world class skills and characteristics associated with the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate. Students learn the value of collaboration, communication, and creativity as they participate in a variety of programs, courses, and activities at Lugoff-Elgin Middle School.
