The Advanced Studies Magnet-Haut Gap Middle School has maintained its rigorous approach throughout the COVID-19 Pandemic. The Advanced Studies Magnet–Haut Gap Middle School is a constituent magnet consisting of 6th, 7th, and 8th grade college prep classes and 6th, 7th, and 8th grade magnet classes. In a positive and safe environment, our teachers are challenged to inspire and instill a love of learning. All students experience a unique and personalized learning experience through a varied and rigorous academic tract that meets the needs of all learners. Data reflect consistent strides in closing the achievement gap among students from varying ethnic groups, genders, and socio-economic levels. Differentiated instruction in addition to targeted instruction will remain a paramount goal for staff to continue to close the achievement gap which has grown during COVID-19.
The Profile of the South Carolina Graduate has provided a solid learning pathway for all students. HGMS utilizes rigorous standards and steps towards career and college readiness. All teachers are trained to teach with creativity and innovation. We want to instill in all students: integrity, self-direction, global perspective, perseverance, work ethic, and interpersonal skills. HGMS focuses on these 3 domains: World Class Knowledge, World Class Skills, and Life and Career Characteristics.
50% of 6th grade students met or exceeded their projected growth goal on Math MAP. 57% of 8th grade students met or exceeded their projected growth goal on MAP math. 42% of 6th grade students met or exceeded their projected growth goal on MAP reading. And, 59% of 7th grade students met or exceeded their projected growth goal on MAP reading.
This data indicates a need for research-based strategies that address specific deficiencies, more digital content, and fulfilling the profile of the SC Graduate for students who are scoring below meets or exceeds on the SC Ready & MAP assessment. This data also indicates a need for an intervention program. Targeted use of digital content and intervention strategies will continue to be used.
Technology played an important role in delivering curriculum on a digital platform utilizing Chromebooks. We offer a full spectrum digital platform with student software in Math, ELA, Social Studies and Science.
