Recently named a National Certified Demonstration Magnet School, Richland Northeast High School has been part of the Northeast Columbia community for more than four decades. Each year, our commitment grows deeper to providing a high-quality education for students that nurtures the development of global thinkers and problem solvers. Our vision is that Richland Northeast will be the premier high school of excellence in academics, the arts, and athletics by preparing all students to be enrolled, enlisted, or employed, and our mission is to help all students develop the World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by delivering premier opportunities for every child, every day, giving them every chance to succeed. Richland Northeast seeks to bring out the best in each student by offering lessons and learning experiences that expand their minds and broaden their creativity and innovation.
Richland Northeast students are exposed to a wide range of opportunities that allow them to be creative and innovative. Richland Northeast encourages student success through AVID which stands for Advancement via Individual Determination. Our students are supported in their curricular endeavors with strategies that are designed to support and encourage students to use Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading to achieve their goals. Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) is a system for all students to lead and excel academically while experiencing the rigors of high level courses. Students can also explore their creativity and innovation through our Career and Technical Education offerings, including Culinary Arts, Business Management, Health Science, Sports Management, Cosmetology, Computer Programming, Entrepreneurship, NJROTC program, and more.
We are an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School. IB offers a higher level of learning that equips students with better writing and critical thinking skills to be successful worldwide. Magnet Schools of America named Richland Northeast a National Magnet School of Distinction for our IB Programme. The IB Middle Years, Diploma and Career-related Programs curriculum serves as the cornerstone of Richland Northeast’s demanding academic program. We are also home to Horizon, an academic magnet for highly motivated, academically talented students; The Palmetto Center for the Arts, which offers dance, music, theater, and visual arts; and Convergence Media, a nationally award-winning, journalism program.
Richland Northeast is known across the country for its award-winning Convergence Media program. Students in this program often team up with school and district administrators to research, create and disseminate news and information. Students are experiencing great success and have won multiple awards recently, including an Emmy in the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Student Production Awards and the Southeast Student Production award. Convergence Media Magnet students won 41 awards at the Southern Interscholastic Press Association convention held at the University of South Carolina. RNE-TV Live, a student-led broadcast, won the Scroggins Award which recognizes the Best in South Broadcast. We are not shy about telling our own stories and our own good news. The RNE “Good News” initiative provides regular press releases about student and school achievements to all local news outlets. This information is also distributed directly to parents, students, community members, and staff via our online “CavCast” blog that won a Reward for Excellence from the South Carolina chapter of the National School Public Relations Association.
Educating students in a well-rounded manner that builds upon their natural strengths and aptitudes is a part of our rich culture and tradition of excellence. The ability of students to succeed beyond our campus is a daily priority. Thus, the administration, teachers, and staff work each day to be sure academic programs remain among the most relevant, challenging, and enriching for our students. This is accomplished with the support of students, families, teachers, staff, and a devoted School Improvement Council. Together we ensure our students leave 7500 Brookfield Road prepared to embark upon their pathway to success.
