Andrews High School is a comprehensive school located in a rural Georgetown County. The goal of the Andrews High School’s administration, faculty and staff is to help all students develop world class skills and life and career characteristics of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate.
Teachers utilize readiness standards for post-secondary education, the workforce, and the military by adopting a culture of high expectations through a rigorous curriculum. The course objectives are aligned with the South Carolina State Curricula, and instructional leaders use results from state and national assessments such as IReady, SAT, ACT, EOC, and Advanced Placement to assist teachers as they plan strategies to improve student proficiency. The increased use of technology enhances overall instruction in all classes.
To meet this goal, AHS’s flexible 4x4 academic schedule provides students with the opportunity to earn eight Carnegie units per year in College Preparatory, Honors, Advanced Placement, PACE, Dual Enrollment, Career and Technology Education, and other electives such as Project Lead the Way and Student Leadership. Andrews High, also, works hard to provide academic assistance to students during the school day by using interventions such as Hive Time and on site peer tutoring. Students also have a variety of clubs, organizations and extracurricular activities in which they can participate and excel both after school and during the day.
Andrews High School participates in the national award-winning Capturing Kids’ Heart initiative, which provides students and staff with a framework for discussing and implementing classroom social contracts; this initiative assists faculty in teaching and reinforcing character development traits and aids in creating positive relationships and interaction between students, faculty, staff, and administration.
Andrews High School provides numerous opportunities to foster better school, student, and community relations by hosting quarterly conferences, freshmen and new student orientation, and regularly scheduled Open Houses. Additionally, parents and community members are invited to attend and participate on the School Improvement Council, FASFA Night, parent conferences, report card pick-up, and in the school’s college and career fairs. This year, Andrews High hosted their 1st College Decision Day.
Andrews High School takes pride in fulfilling its mission statement: To prepare our diverse student population with the skills necessary to succeed in a complex society by encouraging family involvement, using creative instructional practices, and providing experiences that increase the students’ opportunities for success.
