West View Elementary School, in partnership with its entire community, is helping all students develop the World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by providing a positive, challenging, and enriched learning environment. Our goal is for each unique student to become a life-long learner and responsible citizen in order to thrive in our increasingly global society. With a Gifted & Global Studies approach, students learn through problem-solving and creative lessons that allow them to increase their understanding of the world around them.
We are committed to our school’s motto of “All Children Experiencing Success” and strive to continuously improve our instructional practices through staff development, collaboration, data team meetings, and reflection. In addition to highly qualified classroom teachers, student learning needs are supported by a literacy coach, reading and math interventionists, special education teachers, classroom assistants, and a teacher for gifted and talented instruction. With our district’s 1:1 initiative, technology is utilized to enhance academic growth through research, presentation, and communication. Individualized learning continues to be the focus for the school and the district, providing students with a pathway for personal growth and success.
In order to meet the needs of the whole child, students at West View receive anti-bullying lessons during class meetings and regular social-emotional lessons from our school guidance counselors. The school psychologist and on-site clinical counselor work in tandem with guidance counselors, teachers, and administrators to provide tiered social-emotional support to students.
Our students are given leadership opportunities and eagerly participate in service-learning opportunities throughout the school year. We have a student-led morning news crew, a daily flag patrol, and an active student council.
At West View Elementary, we value family involvement and are intentional in creating ways for families to partner with us to contribute to overall student success. We provide frequent two-way communication between home and school and offer flexibility with scheduling and method of participation for teacher conferences. Families have a voice through the Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO), School Improvement Council (SIC), opinion surveys, and the school’s commitment to a welcoming and inclusive school environment.
The tradition of success at West View is the result of a dedicated staff partnered with supportive families and community members working together to provide opportunities for students to maximize their academic and social-emotional potential. Great things are happening at West View Elementary School!
