After more than a year apart, we were back together at school, and it felt so good! Although there was a lot of ground to cover, we were excited to do it together- one step at a time. At North Elementary, we are focusing on helping all students develop the World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate during the 2021-2022 school year. Our faculty and staff are committed to celebrating a tradition of excellence in education by setting high expectations for academic, social, and emotional growth. Collaboration between our dedicated staff and supportive parents continue to strengthen the development of our students as eager, life-long learners and as compassionate, responsible, human beings.
As we concentrate on those World Class Skills, we are working intently to build on the STEAM approach of learning that integrates science, technology, engineering, art, and math used to guide student inquiry, dialogue, and critical thinking. Students advance their learning through deep wonderings toward independent thinking. Instruction is explicitly planned to help students make connections to real-world problem-solving.
Our welcome home theme this year was “Live, Learn, Lead: NORTH” as we shifted our focus on strengthening the foundation for our students by giving them the tools they needed to lead in their own learning, the classroom, our school community, and at home. As school began, we renewed our focus on Covey’s 7 Habits of Happy Kids and equipped every student with the tools needed to serve as leaders. Everyone did a beautiful job centering our school culture around those habits. It was mind-blowing watching our students apply those habits in their daily lives. The carry-over was evident making this a very worthwhile investment for our students. This year, we also worked with our students on setting personal, grade level, and school-wide goals, and helped them pace themselves throughout the year to meet those goals.
We are fortunate that our entire North family embraces our “life-long learning” motto and that parents, students and teachers worked hard to ensure every child received the best education we can provide. As always, we thank you for all your continued support of the students and staff at North!
