Pine Tree Hill Elementary School is truly a remarkable place for students to learn and grow. We are committed to helping all students develop the World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by focusing on the power of relationships in order to achieve academic success. Our mission and vision is a team effort and we strive to work closely with our families to ensure that students are supported academically, behaviorally, developmentally, socially, and emotionally.
Although the 2021-2022 school year ended on a high note, we are streamlining our focus to analyze the impact of the pandemic. Our school has adapted a core team to develop a multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS) that plans for, monitors, and evaluates both the academic and behavioral needs of each student. Together, this team and teachers analyze student data and make informed decisions for students exceeding benchmarks and those in need of more support. This system is also used to analyze behavior and provide social emotional wrap around support to students in need. We take pride in using this systematic approach to assist with the overall success of our learners.
Understanding that no true learning occurs without an authentic relationship, our school also takes pride in the success of our family and community engagement and partnerships. Our largest community partner, The Original Six Foundation sponsored our very first My First Library event and our annual One Book, One School, providing over 1,000 books to our bullpups to add to their at home libraries. We enjoyed great honors this year continuing our Distinguished Arts Grant as well as the Duke Energy Science Grant, both provided our students and families with opportunities to experience hands. We were also honored by the South Carolina Chapter of the National Public Relations Association for a media publication which showcased our student and family engagement. Our fabulous Parent-Teacher Organization raised over $16,000, which assisted in our Family Holiday Night, Outdoor Movie Night, school PBIS store, Kindergarten and 5th Grade promotion ceremonies, and a host of student and teacher incentives including the celebration of our Teacher of the Year, Tina Absher and our school retirees.
Staying true to our commitment to building relationships and establishing a "whole child" mindset, we will embrace the theme "We are ONE school with many stories" as well as begin the process of becoming a Leader in Me certified school. We will focus on academic achievement, social and emotional learning, empowering students through leadership, and creating a culture of trust and engagement with families and community partners. Great things continue to happen at Pine Tree Hill Elementary School, home of the bullpups!
With Bullpup Pride,
Markeita Barber, Principal
