Lugoff Elementary School (LES) continues to aid all students in developing the world class skills and life and career characteristics of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by providing varied learning opportunities. These opportunities develop competent, confident, lifelong learners by creating a safe, positive child-centered environment where our school and community work collaboratively to help students reach their potential. This mission is evidenced by our continued legacy of excellence which is reflected through our competitive test scores.
At LES, our motto is A, B, C - All Because of Children. Our teachers continuously seek and implement interactive and effective strategies to use in the classroom such as Reflex Math, Reading Eggs/Eggspress, Math Seeds, Letterland, Guided Math, Reader's and Writer's Workshop, Study Island, and the Edmentum Suite. These, along with differentiated instruction and our one-to-one technology-infused lessons, help us meet the needs of our learners.
LES students participate in activities that develop them academically, socially and emotionally. They are rewarded throughout the year for positive behavior and choices through our Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) program. Students are also leaders in safety patrol, flag patrol, and Beta Club. Our school counselor develops students of good character through monthly lessons on study/school skills, bullying, drug awareness, personal body safety, friendship skills, and empathy. Also, a student from every classroom is recognized for best exhibiting the character word of the month. Personal goals are set for students which allow them to be recognized several times a year through the TERRIFIC KIDS program. In order to help promote a global perspective and encourage our students to not only be thinkers, but doers, we encourage participation in several community service learning projects. Due to COVID-19, we were not able to complete as many projects as in prior years, but we were able to partner with local Boy Scout troop and collected canned foods and other dry goods. We were also able to collect and donate supplies to a local animal shelter.
Our school remains committed to encouraging the continued academic, social and emotional growth of all of our students by ensuring that every minute counts.
