Camden Elementary School is committed to helping all students develop the world class skills and life and career characteristics of the Profile of the SC Graduate by promoting critical thinking skills, communication, collaboration and creativity. We do this by providing students with challenging opportunities through technology and the creative arts in a safe and nurturing environment.
This year our school continued our personalized learning initiative. We targeted specific skills using the Edmentum software products. All students participated in a school wide trophy challenge and tracked their growth in the classroom and in other areas in the school. The Exact Path Trophy Challenge was instrumental in maintaining student growth in ELA and in Math. Our students who consistently used Exact Path, met and sometimes exceeded their growth projections on the winter and spring MAP assessment.
We use parallel block scheduling to create time for teachers to provide differentiated instruction specifically for student needs. Our enrichment block of time is titled WINN (What I Need Now). Students receive small group instruction, may participate in pull-outs and receive enrichment and intervention services during the WINN block. Title One funds are also allocated to provide math and reading intervention. Interventionists worked with students during their WINN time by either pulling students out into a small group setting or by pushing into the classroom to assist with facilitating small group instruction.
Collaboration is the key to success. We celebrated our COLTS this year with the theme, “Lucky to be a COLT”. We continued to face challenges related to the COVID-19 pandemic, but we were able to overcome those challenges by focusing on student growth and achievement.
Our CES COLTS also continued with our One Book/One School journey and everyone read Mr. Popper’s Penguins by Richard Atwater. We ended the school year by infusing more leadership opportunities for our CES Colts. Our students created our school theme for the 2022 -2023 school year, designed the school t-shirt and they voted on next year’s One Book/One School title. Stay tuned to find out what was selected.
We continue to live our motto “Galloping to Greatness,” and we are excited about what the future holds for our CES Colts!
