St. James-Santee Elementary-Middle School is helping all students develop the world-class skills and life and career characteristics of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by providing a safe, caring, and academically challenging learning environment. The faculty, students, and staff of St. James-Santee Elementary-Middle School continued with improvements in all areas of school culture, which has strengthened our core instruction and placed an emphasis on rigor and student outcomes. St. James-Santee Elementary-Middle students, parents, teachers, and administration continue to maintain a pursuit of excellence in all areas of education.
St. James-Santee Elementary- Middle School is a rural school on the northern boundary of Charleston County. We are located in beautiful McClellanville, South Carolina, and surrounded by the Francis Marion National Forest. Our school is known for its small class sizes and ability to individualize learning to make our educational experience more personal for our scholars.
St. James Santee scholars participated in a school-wide reading initiative. Services were provided to all scholars through content and related arts classes. Pop-up reading sessions were held; which allowed scholars and parents to choose books to add to their home libraries. During the final quarter, parents and community members were invited to read with scholars during the school day. We are looking forward to expanding this initiative and continuing with collaboration with East Cooper Faith Network with the implementation of the I-Beam memoring program. This year our scholars participated in various online tutorial sessions with teachers; which was a continued practice from the previous year, as it allowed parents to be engaged and assist scholars; creating a positive home-school relationship. Teachers and staff communicated frequently with scholars regarding progress-monitoring results and created and implemented individualized plans to address concerns. St. James Santee offers Honors Algebra I, Spanish I, Fundamentals of Computing and Discovering Computer Science for high school credit.
Our school continues to use the PBIS model for school-wide behavioral expectations. Our (HERO) motto allows our students to demonstrate characteristics that prepare them to be Helpful, Engaged, Respectful and Organized. Students have the opportunity to participate in HERO activities and receive daily and weekly recognition, along with scheduled, incentive-based events.
Our school has always been committed to students, families, and the community we serve. As our students reach new heights, we are hopeful that our growing and active partnerships with all of our stakeholders will continue to enhance the lives of all our students. The goal at St. James-Santee Elementary-Middle School is to become a model school for academic achievement as we prepare students for high school and beyond.
