Our school is helping all students develop the World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by providing a safe, nurturing, welcoming, caring, invigorating, and academically challenging environment for all students. We maintain high expectations for academic achievement. We believe in educating the whole child and that the Children are the Heart of North Aiken Elementary School. We are developing premier students that persevere, are goal oriented, apply their knowledge, and are life-log learners.
At North Aiken Elementary, we focus on data- driven instruction with an emphasis on the development of our students’ literacy and numeracy skills. By using ongoing formative assessments, teachers are able to identify students’ areas of strengths for enrichment and areas of deficits for targeted inventory. In grades one through five, students are given Measurement of Academic Progress (MAP) three times per year. In addition, kindergarten through second grade students are also asses using FastBridge three times a year. The data from these assessments are analyzed to help group students for instruction as well as small groups. The data is also used to determine student progress towards meeting grade level benchmarks as well as growth from fall to spring in reading and math. In kindergarten through fifth grade the Fountas and Pinnell Benchmark Assessment System is given three times per year to determine students instructional and independent reading level to be used for whole groups and small group instruction Additionally, these formative assessments are used to identify students in need of targeted interventions in the areas of reading and math. Our teachers receive continuous professional development to provide quality learning to all students. Professional development is also used to give teachers the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues vertically and horizontally.
We believe students learn best using Social Emotional Learning with Move this World and Capturing Kids Hearts as resources. We believe the development of social-emotional skills are taught using real life situations that students face daily. Social and Emotional Learning is integrated throughout the entire school day in all curriculum areas.
At North Aiken Elementary, we are committed to our purpose that the children are the Heart of North Aiken, and together we learn, grow and excel. We strongly encourage everyone to be actively involved in our community! Some of our school events were Read Across America Week. Family Literacy Night, and Emerald City Day. The accomplishments of our school can be accredited to the hard work of the students, faculty, staff, parents, and the School Improvement Council. As a school community, we look forward to the future and continued input and collaboration with all stakeholders.
