Riverside Middle School inspires, supports and prepares all students as they develop the skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by providing a safe, caring, and academically challenging learning environment. Riverside Middle School is a community of learners, developing world-class skills to be productive, engaged members of a global citizenry.
Through collaboration and a shared vision of excellence, teachers and staff members work with students and their families through a multi-tiered system of supports that targets not only students’ academic success but also the physical, mental and social well-being of all students. We are proud of our extraordinary history of academic success. Relationships form the basis for our work, and classroom instruction is designed to be developmentally responsive and driven by student needs.
At Riverside Middle, we are "Learning Today and Leading Tomorrow" and have established various programs outside the academic realm to focus on the development of the whole child. Students participate in a variety of character and career development experiences including Leadworthy, guest speakers, assemblies, Lunch-n-Learns, and mentoring relationships. Our Makerspace continues to thrive and allows students to work through the design process and explore their creativity.
As a diverse school community, RMS has developed a school-climate that celebrates a variety of cultures and languages and strives to "capture the hearts" of students and families in our school community.
Students also enjoy a variety of opportunities in academics, fine arts, technology, and career preparation. These opportunities include several high school credit courses including Algebra, Geometry, English I, Drama I, Art I, Virtual Graphic Design, Google Basics and Google Apps, Art I, Theatre I, French I, and Spanish I. Students also participate in award-winning band and strings programs, guitar, chorus, Gateway to Technology, robotics, computer technology, and foreign language.
Riverside Middle understands it is important to build upon our success through partnerships with our community and families and fully supports an active PTSA and School Improvement Council. Through these partnerships, we have organized exciting events including Spirit Week, in which our student council raised funds for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Red Ribbon Week, Community Fest, and many other community activities. Thank you for your support in helping to develop our future South Carolina graduates and world leaders!
