The Arts Magnet middle school for Florence 1 Schools, many of our students take advantage of our Fine Arts and Technology Academy that includes opportunities in creative writing, dance, instrumental music (band, guitar, orchestra, and piano), media arts, photography, technology, theatre arts, visual arts, and vocal music. Southside Middle School emphasizes cross-curricular collaboration with the goal of providing our students with a rich, diverse educational experience. We also have numerous extracurricular opportunities for students to further explore their academic and personal interests. Our athletics program is an integral part of our school where students learn the value of teamwork, goal setting, and perseverance. It is our mission to prepare our students to be successful both in and out of the classroom by providing them with solid academic experiences and diverse learning opportunities in an environment which focuses on having all students become creative thinkers who are prepared to compete in a global society.
Our Project Lead the Way (PLTW) courses include design and modeling, medical detectives, and robotics. Our PLTW courses provide our students with the opportunity to explore possible careers in science, engineering, and technology. All of our students are afforded the opportunity to be creative, innovative, and enhance their interpersonal skills.
Southside Middle School continues to lead the way in innovation by providing our students the opportunity to utilize technology both in class and at home through our one to one technology initiative. Our school is in the sixth year of Chromebook integration which provides our students with unique opportunities across the curriculum. Additionally, our school is AdvancED STEM certified.
