Spaulding Middle School serves students in grades sixth through eighth. Our dedicated staff is committed to providing our scholars with high-quality instruction that engages all students. We feel that it is essential that we provide students with the knowledge they need to become world-class citizens. The South Carolina Graduate profile serves as our guide for our scholars as they develop world-class skills and life and career characteristics. The South Carolina Curriculum Standards are the foundation for all instructional courses. Scholars who meet the academic criteria have the opportunity to take Algebra 1, English 1, and Foundations in Computing for High School credit. We have several elective courses and clubs that complement our academic program here at SMS. In addition, our school has a full-time school guidance counselor, a mental health counselor, a school nurse, a community facilitator, a career specialist, an instructional coach, a parent liaison, and several support staff members.
All faculty and staff members are committed to ensuring that our scholars are always engaged in exemplary teaching and learning experiences. In 2018 and 2019, our school received an Excellent rating on the SC School Report Card from the SC Department of Education. We also received the Palmetto Silver Award in 2017 and 2018. SMS is the home of the Upper Pee Dee Reigning Football Championship. The motto at SMS is "Excellence in all that we do" and "Make Every Day Count. This past school year (2020-2021), our school received the National Beta School of Merit Award.
Instruction at Spaulding Middle is rich with technology, as our teachers use 1:1 iPads and educational digital applications to provide more differentiation and personalized learning. Spaulding Middle School is a data-driven school, where our teachers regularly collaborate in our PLC Lab. We feel that by including our scholars, we can empower them and allow them to be a part of their learning process. Academic growth and achievement are celebrated throughout the school year. We believe that it is important that we celebrate our scholars and their growth journey as we make our way toward achieving excellence.
