The 2020-2021 school year was very challenging with covid related issues for Denmark Olar Middle School. We began the year virtually for all students, but by the third week of September, students had the option of returning to face to face learning. We continue helping all students develop the World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by focusing on several goals and objectives, which centered on continuous improvement through technology integration, data driven decisions, enhanced public relations that showcased positive innovative programs, and monthly professional development for teachers. Consequently, we focused our efforts to ensure the college and career readiness of our students in preparation for the SC PASS and SC READY.
Our academic program was also greatly enhanced due to the faculty and staff of Denmark-Olar Middle Schools continued commitment to embrace the Professional Learning Teams concept. We continued our numerous intervention strategies and academic support initiatives to assist our students. Using the Professional Learning Communities model, we continued to set high expectations for all of our teachers and staff to use research based best practices that have an impact on student growth. We emphasized specific goals that enhanced student critical thinking skills primarily as it relates to problem solving situations. Our academic gain is supported by an engaging curriculum that provides for daily intervention for students who are not meeting standards.
Denmark Olar Middle School moved into a new building and all classes have state of the art interactive boards. Denmark Olar Middle School is proud to be a "one to one" school, which means that all students have a chromebook. This enables teachers to assign work virtually as well as a being a valuable research tool for students. Denmark-Olar Middle has strived to increase parental involvement. Parents participated and enjoyed our ELA and Social Studies Night, Math and Science Night and our various other programs. Our SIC are very active, and have provided great assistance with school initiatives.
Our after school program was beneficial to many students as they were able to receive additional help and attend virtual field trips. Eighth graders received a very rewarding experience by another year of job shadowing. The Voorhees Scholars program continues to attract many of our students and is beneficial to their academic well being as well as exposing these students to life outside of school
We have made great academic strides in the last three years and the best is yet to come! As we continue to look forward to our future of academic success for students, we encourage you to continue with your support of our school and our community.
