The High School for Health Professions (HSHP) helps all students develop World-Class Skills for the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by offering quality educational opportunities that teach, support, and nurture student growth. With a continued focus on literacy, student engagement, rigor, and relevance, faculty and staff members strive to improve student achievement and to provide “A Winning Education for Champions” daily.
The High School for Health Professions Class of 2020 embodied and embraced academic success and received over 7.6 million dollars in scholarships for post-secondary education. The Class of 2020 increased the graduation rate to 100% from the previous year’s 98.9%. This class was also comprised of 100% Health Science completers. Included in those Health Science completers were four certified electrocardiograph technicians, one certified medical assistant, four certified nursing assistants, three certified patient care technicians, and two certified phlebotomy technicians. Two of the nursing assistant students went on to compete in a HOSA virtual conference for Nursing Assistant, and both won at the bronze level and became eligible to compete in the HOSA International Leadership Conference in Houston. Because of this class’s commitment to academic achievement, one member of this senior class was chosen out of nearly 7,000 applicants to receive a National Honor Society scholarship.
The commitment to World-Class Knowledge is evident in the tremendous efforts and accomplishments in both the academic and sports departments at HSHP. Throughout the school year, various opportunities provided for students to engage in stimulating activities that promote growth in critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity. Teachers designed and delivered World Class Knowledge-based lessons that inspired scholars to grow academically and become well-rounded. The incorporation of the skills into the fibers of our school have yielded great successes. Building these support systems has led to improved graduation rates and increased scores on national and state standardized assessments. Additionally, for the fourth consecutive year, there was 100% passage on the AP Calculus AB exam with all scholars earning a score of five this year. While focusing on academics, our competitive cheer squad was also able to secure a national title. The competitive cheer squad won first place in every category including dance, cheer, and solo performance in the Power House National Cheerleading Competition
The High School for Health Professions developed and fostered Life and Career Characteristics through implementation of various partnerships and initiatives facilitated not only in the classrooms, but by HSHP’s school-based organizations. Organizations such as, the National Honor Society, HOSA, FBLA, provided multiple service-learning opportunities to assist with supporting the community in hurricane relief efforts, homeless shelter re-opening efforts, and children’s hospital visits coupled with Build-A-Bear Donations to the pediatric patients. Our CNA/Patient Care Tech students in collaboration with the Health Science department hosted three American Red Cross blood drives. HSHP also hosted its initial school-wide National Shadowing Day having 88% of the school’s scholars to participate in meaningful job-shadow experiences. In addition, the Student Advisory Council as well as our Royal Court promoted resilience and self-determination by serving as ambassadors within and outside the school community. As a result of our continual work with educational stakeholders and commitment to excellence, we have minimized all barriers to success.
We believe there is no limit to what our students can accomplish when all stakeholders work together to develop college and career ready South Carolina graduates. We will continue to strive for excellence while providing “A Winning Education for Champions”. WE ARE WARRIORS!
