We, at Buffalo Elementary School, believe in a “Students First” approach to education and in preparing our children for what lies ahead of them in their future. The day to day interactions they have and the experiences we provide aid in building character, resilience, belief in themselves, World Class Skills, and the work ethic that will help them be successful throughout their lives. Teamwork is a basis of who we are as a school, and it is exemplified throughout our school every day!
The faculty and staff at Buffalo Elementary are compassionate and loving while holding children to a high standard academically. Standards-based instruction is designed to provide all children with opportunities to connect with required content established by the state of South Carolina. Activities are selected, developed, and facilitated by the teachers in order for students to be able to not only learn the content but apply their knowledge. Collaboration and teamwork are modeled by our faculty and staff throughout our campus; therefore, these skills carry over into the classroom. Students are surrounded by role models who are not only serving as teachers, but as mentors, supporters, and caretakers. We are aware that must look at the whole child and address his or her needs. Developing and strengthening students’ World Class Skills are imperative, and we continuously strive to integrate these skills into daily instruction and interactions with others. Communication skills, problem solving, and the integration of technology for instructional purposes are some of the skills that you see embedded throughout our school campus at all grade levels.
In addition to emphasizing academic achievement, we believe in providing opportunities for children to begin learning about college and career options at an early age. During Career Week this year, guest speakers from our community, throughout the United States and even across the world took part in sharing a video about their experiences, their career paths, and tips to ensure success in accomplishing their goals and making their dreams a reality. Outreach efforts greatly broadened students' awareness of many different college and career paths that are available.
We continually monitor our school programs to strengthen and emphasize our commitment to learning and student success. At Buffalo Elementary, we have an active School Improvement Council and PTA who work collaboratively for our school in developing and strengthening World Class Skills and all of the components encompassing the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate. They are active in our community and work to bridge the gap between home, school, business partners, and the community. As stakeholders, all of us working together gives us the opportunity to provide a rigorous curriculum, while meeting the emotional, physical, and educational needs of each student to help ensure they are prepared and ready for their future.
