The 2020-2021 school year brought with it a multitude of ADVENTURES for students to Explore, Learn and Grow at Cowpens Elementary School. As a school family, we collaborate to help all students develop World Class Skills of the Profile of the SC Graduate as demonstrated through quality instruction that meets the individual needs of our students. Together we work to build a strong foundation based on data assessment. We offer personalized literacy and number sense instruction, as well as authentic hands-on instruction and modern instructional technology necessary for the future careers of our students. Students experienced many opportunities to excel both inside the classroom and through distance learning, to develop communication skills and relationships with friends and teachers, to foster creativity, to become community-minded citizens and to make healthy lifestyle decisions.
Cowpens Elementary School maintains and communicates a purpose and direction that commits to high expectations for learning. This was even more true as we experienced a year of precautions and challenges due to COVID-19. We clearly focused on student success and ensuring that students are challenged to learn. Our team came together to support our students so that the learning continued in a variety of creative ways.
Students received honors and recognitions that included Terrific Kids, the Kiwanis’ Multiplication Medallion Challenge, the Piedmont Regional Science Fair, Art Exhibitions, CES School-Wide Reading Challenge, Buddy Award, Positive Behavior, Principal’s Honor Roll, Honor Roll, and Outstanding Effort. Our students were able to participate in a variety of activities to foster communication and leadership skills. Some Those of those activities include Student Council, Girls on the Run, musical performances, Cougar Morning News and Junior Beta Club.
Faculty and staff collaborated with district colleagues to refine the curriculum in 5K through grade 5 to provide aligned standard based instruction. We researched and implemented a variety of instructional strategies in the classroom to improve reading comprehension and number sense. Instructional technology continued to broaden the depth of the curriculum school-wide as we all experienced a “new normal” via eLearning. Teachers received grants from a variety of donors to enhance the learning and student fitness in their classrooms.
A sense of community and service to others is an integral part of a student’s education at CES. Our students were involved in activities to support others such as Winter Warmth for Kids, Giving Warms the Heart, Relay for Life, Children’s Assistance Fund, food drives for our local pantry and Make March Lucky collection for animal shelter pets.
CES lives by our guiding principle, ALL IN for every child, every day, whatever it takes! Together, our faculty, staff and community ensure that the students at Cowpens Elementary School are provided personalized opportunities to gain world-class knowledge and skills and to develop life and career goals to lead them to become successful, productive adults.
