Wood Report Card Narrative 2020-2021
Wood Elementary School helps all students develop World Class Skills and Life and Career Characteristics of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate. Through rigorous instruction at every grade level, we ensure all students develop the essential skills necessary to collaborate and effectively communicate in an ever-changing world.
In grades 4K-5, we consistently set high expectations for all students. Students are given the opportunity to collaborate and problem solve across subject areas. Project Lead the Way (PLTW) has continued for grades 2-5, with implementation in all grade levels, to foster rigorous engagement and collaborative teamwork that allows students to apply critical thinking skills. In addition, STEM activities are incorporated throughout all grade levels to support science instruction. Struggling students are provided appropriate assistance via our Response To Intervention model with targeted instruction. We employed six certified and four non-certified interventionists this year -- eight for reading, two for math -- to work with small groups of students with identified needs in an effort to assist them in becoming proficient with South Carolina standards.
As a school, we are committed to exposing students to the power of giving back to our community. Each partnership we have established builds a relationship that embraces social development and creative thinking while empowering our students to think globally to help others. Our Communities in Schools representative, guidance department, and dedicated teachers provide vast opportunities for students to engage with the community and to give back, despite some of the limitations of COVID-19 in the 2020-2021 school year. We partnered with a local church to provide lunches for our students in need through the Communities in Schools partnership.
The faculty and staff at Wood Elementary will continue to provide opportunities for our students to develop the World Class Skills and Life and Career Characteristics that will enable them to become productive citizens in our community.
