Lexington Elementary School is helping all students develop the World-Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by supporting high expectations for every child. The mission of LES, in partnership with our community, is to develop an enriched learning environment, encouraging lifelong learners for the ever-changing world who demonstrate the International Baccalaureate attributes and attitudes of responsible citizens in a global society.
All of our grade levels use the self-contained classroom approach to teach our students. This allows our teachers the flexibility to teach the S.C. State Standards using transdisciplinary units of study across the various content areas. Our teachers use the workshop model approach to teach students language arts and math, which allows them to provide differentiated instruction to each student. Daily instruction is infused with current technology. All LES students, in kindergarten through fifth grade, have one-to-one devices for technology. In January 2021, LES received their 5-year IB recertification due to the best practices outlined above.
LES was able to accomplish a great number of facility upgrades during the 2020-21 school year, including a new bus canopy, new road entrance from Highway 6 to the front of the school, renovated nature trail, Gaga Pit, new playfield, outdoor dining areas and new school murals. Our parents and community members provided an overwhelming amount of support through their time, talents and gifts. The PTA provided many books and resources that align to our IB planners for classroom instruction.
LES believes that working together for our students allows them every chance to be successful and productive students.
