Manning Elementary School is helping all students develop the world class skills and life and career characteristics of the profile of the graduate by providing the opportunity for every child to experience academic and social success. The mission of Manning Elementary School is “Educating Children”. With this mission, Manning Elementary continues to implement rigorous standards in language arts and math for career and college readiness. Manning Elementary School had 577 students in grades 4, 5, and 6. Most students come from a rural setting with 61% African-American students, 28% Caucasian students, and 11% other. Our school-wide focus this past year was based on SCREADY, SC PASS, MAP, and Next Steps in Guided Reading. All students at Manning Elementary School were given the MAP (Measure of Academic Progress) test three times during the year.
Every student at Manning Elementary has a laptop that is used throughout the day. This allows students to communicate information with other students and their teachers. Students learned how to collaborate individually and in teams. Achieve 3000, ALEKS, Study Island, Exact Path, Discovery Education and Learning.com are computer based instructional programs that are used to provide students with extra support in their areas of academic weakness. Our struggling readers received intervention with our Read to Succeed Coach. Our school participated in a district-wide Character Education Program where students were encouraged to display good character traits. Character education was addressed through our guidance department to enhance critical thinking and problem solving skills. Clarendon County Mental Health offered counseling for our students to improve integrity and interpersonal skills.
Manning Elementary School students have the opportunity to participate in the Clarendon Christian Learning Center. Our students also have access to the Smiles Dental Clinic. Various programs and activities provided opportunities for parents to become involved in their child’s education. Programs and activities included Open House, Meet the Teacher, School Improvement Council Meetings, an annual school play, scheduled parent visitations, and other night activities scheduled for parents and students. Parents also have access to the Parent Portal and district websites for information. Student progress reports are sent home periodically to parents.
Manning Elementary School participates in service learning projects such as Relay for life, Pennies for Presents, SNAK Kits, and various food and shoe drives.
Manning Elementary School continues to increase rigor through a project based learning approach that promotes lifelong readers who are prepared to face the 21st century.
