Charles Pinckney Elementary School is helping all students develop the world class skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by focusing on the four Cs- critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity.
It is the belief of Charles Pinckney Elementary that students require a variety of opportunities for learning to promote creativity and innovation. Students have participated in room transformations where the learning was centralized around a specific theme, such as Dinosaurs, Willy Wonka, and a Cold War fallout shelter. Student engagement and motivation for learning has increased due to our emphasis on creativity and innovation. We also develop in our students the skills of communication, information, media and technology.
Our staff integrates digital resources into teaching, learning, and operations to improve effectiveness and student performance. We are a one-to-one iPad school, which allows each student access to their own device throughout the school day and in every class. Through their Google accounts, students are taught to prioritize and collaborate with others. Technology plays a major role in the instruction of students at Pinckney. Due to our student’s and staff’s experience and knowledge with technology, we were able to seamlessly adapt to online learning during the worldwide pandemic.
Through weekly meetings, our MTSS team has monitored student learning and student engagement to minimize the impact of COVID-19. Student attendance, achievement, and engagement (for virtual students) is discussed and the team works to problem-solve areas of weakness. Mentors, interventionists, and guidance counselors led small groups, and individual counseling has been offered to students and families throughout the school year. Our MTSS team will continue to monitor students’ academic progress and social emotional learning in order to address any areas of concern as a result of COVID-19.
Charles Pinckney Elementary School’s persistent pledge to excellence has and will continue to create students with World Class Knowledge, World Class Skills, and admirable Life and Career Characteristics.
