North Charleston Elementary (NCES) is helping all students develop the world class skills of the South Carolina Graduate by providing a learning environment that is academically challenging, safe, and caring. The NCES teachers work tirelessly, learning and implementing new teaching strategies that enhance their students' learning and potential for growth. Specifically, we are focused on early literacy foundational skills. In order to increase our students' level of critical thinking and collaboration, NCES has implemented STEM programs through Project Lead The Way and the Liberty Hill STEM Initiative. Through this initiative, students were given projects to complete while focusing on Science, Math, and Engineering skills.
To improve the opportunities for collaboration, North Charleston Elementary has created various extracurricular activities for students in an effort to develop the whole child. Programs such as basketball, dance, cheerleading, Girls on the Run, and Student Council required our students to understand the importance of staying active, collaborating, and setting goals.
The students of North Charleston Elementary come from many different backgrounds and many different cultures. For that reason, we work hard at NCES to recognize our unique differences through celebrations that educate our students and staff. A couple of the programs that took place this year at NCES included our Black History and Hispanic Heritage programs.
By recognizing our individual strengths and equipping our students with the tools to be successful in life, students of NCES are making the transition from being great students to being great citizens of our community. We are extremely excited and look forward to building on the progress that our students and teachers have made during the 2020-2021 school year.
