Students at Pendleton Elementary School develop the world class skills and life and career characteristics of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate through developing collaboration and critical thinking skills in our students.
Pendleton Elementary students, staff, and school community continue the vision of being World Changers through both behavior and academics. Our school has been successful this year continuing our character education program where we teach students life skills with our school wide essentials and character traits with our Bulldog GROWLS (Gratitude, Respect, Ownership, World Changer, and Leadership.) Hundreds of teachers and students were nominated all year for displaying these traits and essentials.
By focusing on collaboration in the classroom through small group work, students learned to work together more in the classroom setting and take ownership of their learning. We focused on student ownership which means students take more pride in their learning. They can talk about what they are learning to each other and their parents. We highlighted a character trait of the month which collaboration and creativity were target traits to improve upon at our school. Teachers nominated students of the month and they were celebrated at our monthly character breakfast. Parents were not allowed to attend due to Covid-19.
PES chartered new territory this year hosting the first ever Virtual Learning Academy. All students in our district were able to choose either a face to face or a virtual learning option. One person from each grade level at PES taught a virtual classroom all day from K5-6th grade. All virtual learning students in Anderson 4 came to PES multiple times throughout the year to take assessments and meet with their teacher from time to time. We are so proud of our Virtual Learning Academy. Our students, parents, and staff all did their part to make the best of a very difficult school year.
This school year the ultimate goal for PES was student safety as well as social/emotional wellbeing. This was the goal from the beginning of the year when we started the year fully face to face with no major school closings due to COVID-19. Our parents, students, and staff did so well following safety protocols each day. We also learned a lot this year about how much we need to be in school face to face. Our students in school lost a lot of instructional time due to a shortened daily schedule so that students could be bussed safely home due to social distancing. PES still did well to grow students despite these circumstances. We look forward to being in person 100% next year. We are PROUD of what we accomplished being face to face as a district from the start to the end of the 2020-2021 school year. Not many districts in SC can say this.
The team at PES is committed to preparing students academically along with equipping them with the skills to be successful in their lifetime. We strive to develop responsibility, respect for others, as well as the importance of resourcefulness, punctuality, and regular attendance. We invite all community members to join us in our efforts as together we prepare all students for their future." It is time to GROW in 21-22.
