La France Elementary School
La France Elementary is helping all students develop the World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by focusing on content knowledge, life skills, and characteristics of good citizens. We engage our learners in rigorous, inquiry based lessons that are derived directly from SC standards. Our teachers engage craft lessons that include arts integration strategies, best instructional practices, and current research in the field of arts and education.
In connection with arts integration, creativity is one of the critical 21st Century skills needed for students to be college and career ready. Throughout each school day, students demonstrate their creativity through drama, visuals, and movement. Artsonia, the largest art museum in the world, houses many of our students’ masterpieces! This is just one avenue in which our students share their creativity with others.
Our students learn in classrooms that foster enjoyment, challenge, and a sense of accomplishment through a variety of learning approaches. This type of cooperative learning environment encourages our students to use complex thinking skills as they solve problems in groups verses experiencing learning in a more traditional style. We challenge our students to think critically and problem solve. Our students are taught to collaborate and effectively communicate with others. Another integral component to the education of our students at La France Elementary is a focus on PRIDE (perseverance, respect, integrity, dependability and empathy). Each vitally important character trait is taught and students are provided ways to demonstrate these traits.
We are convinced that this approach to teaching and learning will equip our students to be successful in our ever-changing world.
