Spartanburg School District One implements the mission of “Providing a quality, student-centered education” across all aspects of the district.
To achieve this mission, decisions are made with input from Spartanburg One’s Board of Trustees, staff, students, parents, business leaders, and community members. These valuable stakeholders provide us with feedback about the skills our students need in order to succeed in their college, military, or workforce careers.
Spartanburg One educators emphasize, at all grade levels, the skills of The Profile of a South Carolina Graduate such as collaboration, work ethic, critical thinking, interpersonal skills, perseverance, and effective communication. Opportunities for implementing World Class Skills are found in each of our eleven schools through comprehensive instruction that includes a workshop model approach, guided and differentiated learning, and tiered interventions to meet the unique needs of all learners.
As a result, Spartanburg One students continue to surpass state and national averages on national assessments, including SAT and ACT. Spartanburg One ranked fourth in the state for overall district SAT scores for the graduating class of 2020. Students continued to exceed state averages in mathematics, science, English, and social studies on End-of-Course Exams. Spartanburg One’s 2020 high school graduation rate of 94.1% was among the highest in the state.
In addition to core academics, our schools provide an array of offerings in both the visual and performing arts and athletics. Spartanburg One is a leader in arts integration across the country, as evidenced by our Kennedy Center Partners in Education designation and participation in the Arts In Basic Curriculum program. Our athletic programs yield state championship titles, both team and individual, nearly every year.
Spartanburg One implemented a successful 1:1 technology refresh despite the challenges of global shutdowns which provided a personalized device for all students, grades K-12. Access to technology and internet services through strategically distributed mobile hotspots provided continuity of instruction for students throughout the months of hybrid instruction.
Students practice citizenship by volunteering in their communities and supporting organizations such as the Children’s Cancer Partners of the Carolinas and the United Way. During the 2020-2021 school year, students in Spartanburg One organized a countywide canned food drive to support local food banks which resulted in the collection of hundreds of thousands of food items for those in need.
Spartanburg One received several accolades in the 2020-2021 school year to include two of our middle schools receiving a Schools To Watch re-designation status, and Chapman High School being named as a 2020 Palmetto’s Finest School recipient.
As we move into the 2021-2022 school year, we are optimistic about the opportunities ahead and are armed with the knowledge that together as a school community, we can accomplish anything.
