Georgetown County School District is helping all students develop the World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by preparing them to be leaders in their communities, successful college graduates, outstanding members of our workforce and military, and productive citizens in our diverse society. All GCSD students, from preschool through adult GED/diploma learners, are challenged with high expectations and supported with a rigorous curriculum that ensures opportunities to develop intellectual curiosity, critical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and aesthetic appreciation. As our students strive for individual growth and development, they participate in engaging classes and meaningful learning experiences that emphasize our commitment to excellence and the development of World Class Knowledge, World Class Skills, and Life and Career Characteristics.
While the 2020-2021 school year presented a tremendous amount of adversity in an ever-changing climate, GCSD continued to meet the challenges and provided reasonable solutions to ensure that our students experienced success. Students were equipped with the technology tools necessary for success with virtual and in-person learning experiences allowing for peer collaboration, communication outside the walls of the traditional school setting, and active engagement in learning. Elementary schools continued to concentrate on building a strong foundation, and middle and high schools focused on student engagement and implementing rigorous curriculum practices. Professional learning for teachers emphasized building stronger professional learning communities and instructional leadership. Students participated in extra-curricular experiences, including robotics, STEM Camps, career internships, academic competitions, boot-camps, CTE competitions, National History Day, and All-State fine arts thereby furthering the development of their individual gifts and talents.
Georgetown County School District would not be successful without the many vital partnerships that help our GCSD population. Our community, businesses, civic organizations, foundations, and parents are extremely supportive and giving. This enables us to serve students’ academic, physical, social, and emotional needs.
We appreciate the continued support of our community, administration, teachers, staff, students, and parents as we work together in order for each student to exemplify the Profile of a South Carolina Graduate! We look forward to working hard in 2021-2022 to achieve another year of great student accomplishments!
