Edgefield County School District’s purpose is to grow World-Class Citizens by Engaging, Empowering, and Enriching All Learners. Our instruction continues to focus on the thinking, personal, and relational skills our students will need to be successful in our ever-changing society.
While the 2020-2021 school year provided many obstacles for teaching and learning, the challenges we faced also provided us with great opportunities. For the first time, all of our students (preK-12) received a chromebook that they were able to take home. Our teachers were provided with opportunities to learn more about teaching online, we incorporated new learning strategies such as “flipped learning,” and students and teachers learned new strategies in communication through remote learning.
We enter the 2021-2022 school year focused on the implementation of inquiry-based state standards, the development of common curriculum, and teaching to new levels of rigor in our classrooms. This work is timely considering the adoption of new standards at the state level. Our strategy for continuing to improve instruction to the greatest extent possible is to bring the greatest asset our students have, our teachers, together to collaborate on curriculum design.
In the upcoming school year we will also have a focus on safety updates. New secure front entrances have been added to all of our facilities, we now have School Resource Officers at every school, and we will be engaged with the county to develop new safety plans for each school. New updates to our school buses will include GPS tracking and new communication devices to ensure our students are safe while traveling. In addition, we have added new software protocols to help us monitor our students online to ensure their safety while they’re online.
A lot of our new safety features come from the addition of new facilities or the modification of existing facilities, which were made possible through the execution of our bond referendum. We are excited to report to our community that our building projects have been completed on time and within budget to date. Our students will reap the benefits of these projects for many years to come and we would like to thank our stakeholders once again for their support of our referendum.
While we faced some challenges this past year, the culture of Edgefield County continues to be its greatest strength. As we continue to modify the learning experience for our students to meet their needs - we also remain passionate about maintaining the positive school climate we have in each of our schools. We are dedicated to providing a positive learning environment for our students and we are dedicated to making school a positive work environment for our teachers.
